Another Large And Severe Nocturnal MCS
Another large MCS this morning shown in the IR satellite image from 1315 UTC this morning. This system had its roots in late afternoon, tornadic thunderstorms over eastern Colorado. The activity this morning is shifted a couple of hundred miles south-southwest of yesterday's early morning storms. Note the very distinct transverse waves in the northern part of the cirrus cloud shield.
Surface plot above is for 13 UTC (7 am CST). No stations were reporting unusually strong winds at this time, but there have been severe reports with the system during the early morning hours. Regional radar chart below is valid at 1355 UTC. Two very classic, Plains nocturnal MCSs on two consecutive nights.
