Storms On the 11th

View toward the Rincons a 5:35 am MST this morning. View at bottom shows storms over the metro at 6:00 pm on the 11th.

We have been away since Thursday morning the 11th. When we returned yesterday afternoon there was 0.90" of rain in the gauge. This fell on the late afternoon/evening of the day we left .

ALERT observations from the 11th (above and below) - note the three amounts over an inch. The storms were accompanied by gusty winds: unknown here; 46 mph (with 0.09") at the airport; 47 mph (with 0.19") at DM; and 38 mph (with 0.06") at Atmo.

We were up at Winslow where there were severe thunderstorm gusts to 73 mph at the historic airport a bit after midnight on Friday night.

At 500 mb this morning (above) there is a large anticyclone centered over southern Colorado (note soundings from Denver continue to be missing). The morning sounding from TWC/TUS (below) has quite large amounts of CAPE, with strong east to southeast steering winds - which should make for an interesting late afternoon and evening today!

The 12 UTC WRF-RR this morning forecasts significant amounts of rainfall (below) for much of eastern Pima and Santa Cruz Counties through 5:00 am on Wednesday the 17th.
