Our Road Trip Around Arizona And New Mexico
Our recent road trip took us through much of the area suffering through extreme drought. Our route was basically Tucson - Phoenix - Payson - Winslow - Holbrook - Eager - Silver City - Deming - Tucson (a total of about 750 road miles). This route took us along and/or across the following "rivers" - Santa Cruz, Gila (twice), Salt, East Verde, Little Colorado (several times), San Francisco, Mimbres, and San Pedro. The only rivers that had flow (quite low) were the East Verde and the Gila west of Silver City - the rest were essentially damp in spots or completely dry. A very distressing, regional situation.
Photo above is of the Buzzard wildfire in the Gila National Forest. This fire has burned over 40,000 acres east-northeast of Reserve, New Mexico. Photo taken on Monday afternoon the 4th of June.
