Short-lived Cb with shower at 7:15 am MST this morning, located just north of the airport. TUS and DM both reported thunder, but storm dissipated before it could move to this part of the city.
Plot of CG flashes (above, from Atmo and Vaisala) for 24-hours ending at 0733 UTC last night shows two clusters of flashes in eastern Pima County. We had low rumbles of evening thunder here, but only sprinkles.
The ALERT observations (above and below ending at 7:00 am this morning) show scattered coverage of amounts of 0.04" and greater. The 0.04" reading in our part of town was just to the east of here, but we only managed a Trace. The Airport had 0.04", while DM and Atmo had Traces.
At 500 mb this morning (analysis above from SPC) the center of the anticyclone has shifted far to the east and is centered over eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Arizona is now under the influence of a weak trough that stretches across southern Nevada and southern California. The morning sounding from TWC/TUS (below) continues moist with considerable CAPE. Winds are light and variable below 300 mb, so there is little in the way of steering flow today.
The 12 UTC forecast from the WRF-RR run at Atmo (above) forecasts light showers mostly over the mountains through midnight tonight. The morning forecast from the NWS for the airport is shown below.
