Heavy shower over our part of town at 4:50 pm MST yesterday afternoon. Plot of detected CG flashes (for 24-hours ending at 0733 UTC last night - from Atmo and Vaisala - below) shows widespread activity over much of eastern Pima County.
ALERT data for 24-hours ending at 7:00 am this morning (above and below) shows widespread rainfall across the network with many reports over half an inch. We ended up with 0.36" here at the house, with gusts of perhaps 40 to 50 mph. The airport had a severe gust to 70 mph and 0.91" of rain, while Atmo reported 0.22", and DM had 0.15". There were also reports of trees down in several parts of town.
At 500 mb (analysis above from SPC) there is a weak trough over western Arizona, and the large anticyclone is centered well to the east, over northern Texas. The TWC/TUS sounding (also from SPC) this morning (below) shows deep, surface based layer of cooling resulting from yesterdays rainfall - afternoon mixed layer will have almost no CAPE and storms seem unlikely today.
However, both the 12 UTC WRF-RR (above) and the morning NWS forecast for the airport (below) indicate some chances for light showers.
