Looking Ahead To 2014 Eastern Pacific Tropical Storm Season

First some miscellany - there is still some dust lingering at low-levels, as per above view of Catalinas this morning. The strongest wind gust I could find for yesterday was 67 mph at the Mt. Hopkins RAWS station. This occurred at 8:19 am MST on Thursday morning, May 1st.

We ended up with 0.04" of rainfall here at the house for April. This makes the total precipitation here only 0.56" during the first four months of 2014. There were six days during April with low temperatures below 40 F, but all days remained above freezing.

The Eastern Pacific tropical storm season begins officially on May 15th, when the National Hurricane Center (NHC) will begin issuing daily outlooks for storms. The above IR image is from 14 UTC this morning and it shows a couple of clusters of heavy storms east of Central America. Activity has been on the increase along the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) during the past week or so. The first five named storms in the Eastern Pacific this year will be: Amanda, Boris, Cristina, Douglas, and Elida.
