More Wind And Dust On Tap

The trailing portion of the upper cyclone currently over the Pacific west of Washington and Oregon (see the Univ. of Wisconsin CIMSS MIMIC PW image above from 18 UTC today - Sunday, May 4th) will deepen into the western U.S. during the next two days. This will bring another 500 mb short wave and attendant front across Arizona next Tuesday and Tuesday night. The forecast models predict that the system will be moisture starved and without precipitation as it affects southern Arizona. The current PW above shows very low values of moisture across most of the Pacific east of 150 degrees longitude and north of 20 degrees latitude. The early WRF-NAM from Atmo today forecast of 10-m winds valid at 3 pm MST on Tuesday afternoon is shown below. The forecast indicates strong and gusty winds across much of Arizona and western New Mexico. So more dust and dirty air likely again to aggravate allergy sufferers.
