Strong Winds And Wildfire Alerts

The graphic above shows NWS Alerts and Warnings for today, Tuesday, April 6th. Much of the Southwest and the southern Plains is affected by wind and wildfire alerts and warnings. The early WRF-NAM forecasts from Atmo again bring strong winds to much of Arizona, while keeping any precipitation well to the north of Tucson, across the northern third of the state. Yuma is already observing blowing dust and much reduced visibility this morning..

Meanwhile, far to the south, a large area of strong convection is associated with a weak, surface low centered near 20N and 110W. The NHC has issued special, pre-season products (the Eastern Pacific tropical storm season begins May 15th) for this system and indicates a moderate chance for tropical storm development during the next two days.
