Chance for Storms Continues

Hazy skies at 6:40 am MST this morning, with some contrails over the Catalinas.

Thunderstorms yesterday occurred over much of Pima County, as plot of detected CG flashes for 24-hours ending at 0103 am this morning. The ALERT maps below are for 24-hours ending at 7:00 am this morning. It was another day with fairly widespread rainfall and amounts ranging from very light to four reports greater than an inch. Here at house we had only 0.08"; Atmo measured 0.11"; DM had 0.06" and the airport reported just a Trace.

At 500 mb the center of the anticyclone remains over the heart of Texas, with southwesterly winds across Arizona (above - note the weird height contour over the GoM). The morning sounding for TWC/TUS (below) has a chopped-up wind profile, but it looks like steering winds for any PM thunderstorms would be south to southwest. Moisture remains with PW of 1.49 inches and a fair amount of potential CAPE.

The 12 UTC WRF-RR forecast from Atmo (second below for rainfall through midnight tonight) forecasts showers over much of the metro area again today.
