More Hot And Dry



View toward the Rincons about 6:00 am MST this morning, with sunrise colors on wispy cirrus.

An IR view (above) of Hurricane Kay at 6:40 am - Kay is currently a Cat 2 storm (winds of 85 kt or 100 mph). The NHC forecast (below) continues to keep Kay west of Baja until it dissipates over the weekend.


This morning's sounding (above) from TWC/TUS is very dry (PW only 0.79") with continued deep layers of residual BL and fairly strong east winds. Speeds have decreased around 850 mb - there'll be hot and gusty east winds again today, but probably not as strong as yesterday's gusts, which reached as high as 33 mph. 

Plumes from the 06 UTC run of the GEFS shown here. Kay helps initiate a significant push of moisture into southeast Arizona on Friday (above). This leads to showers at the airport (below), but forecast amounts are mostly quite light (below).
