Another sunrise with a bit of pink cloud color.
Plot of detected CG flashes (above for 24-hours ending at 0103 am MST this morning) shows a fairly large donut hole over much of eastern Pima County (from Atmo and Vaisala). However, there was a distinct cluster of flashes at the west end of the Catalinas. The ALERT data for 24-hours ending at 7:30 am (two plots below) show a number of amounts over 0.50" at sites on west end of Catalinas. Note that Three Points reported 2.48" and Amado had 1.18" - both apparently having direct hits by intense storms to the south and southwest of the metro area.
The airport had a thunderstorm with gusts to 33 mph, but only a Trace of rain; DM also had a Trace; and Atmo had nothing, as did we here at the house.
This morning's TWC/TUS sounding (above) continues moist, although PW is down a bit to 1.39", with perhaps a slight bit of potential CAPE. However, the 12 UTC run of the WRF-RR at Atmo predicts drying today and has PW down to just over an inch by mid-afternoon. This drying is reflected in the run's forecast for rainfall through midnight (below), which leaves Pima County almost completely dry. At bottom is a morning graphic from the NWS for today, presenting an outlook very much wetter than that of the WRF.
