Significant Dry-Out

Small, but heavy thunderstorm around 1:00 pm MST yesterday was dissipated and gone by 2:00 pm. Rainfall here at house from this storm was 0.28".

As dry air intruded from southwest during the afternoon, PW plummeted and the low RH let minimum temperature this morning drop to 58 F - very pleasant.

ALERT plot above shows 24-hour rainfall amounts of 0.04" or more. Light showers and storms mostly affected parts of metro area. The airport reported 0.02", Atmo had 0.07", and DM registered a Trace.

The 500 mb analysis this morning (below from SPC) shows the West is now dominated by a trough in the westerlies - definitely not a "monsoonal" pattern.

Seven-day plot of GPS PW from campus (above) shows the huge plunge of almost an inch yesterday afternoon.

However, the GEFS plumes from 06 UTC this morning (below) forecast a gradual increase during the week, with a significant jump by Friday the 12th - so, more storms possible after about a 5 day down period.
