Storms And Some Rain Yesterday

Thunderstorms moved across portions of the metro area late yesterday afternoon - view above at 4:27 pm MST and view at bottom from 5:00 pm.

Composite radar at 4:20 pm (above) looked like we had excellent chance for heavy thunderstorm here at house - but not to be. Appeared to be a typical split, with part of echo hugging the mountains and more heavy southern part heading toward Atmo. Plot of detected CG flashes below (from Atmo and Vaisala) is for 24-hours ending at 7:00 am this morning. There was more activity over parts of eastern Pima County than models predicted yesterday.

ALERT rainfall data (above, for 24-hours ending 7:00 am today) shows that most rain reports of 0.04" were over mountains and west portions of city along I-25. Note the three reports of more than an inch near downtown Tucson. However, nothing to report over large portions of metro area.

Rain amounts: TUS 0.26" with gusts to 43 mph; nearby DM had only 0.09"; Atmo had 0.42"; while here at house we had rumbling thunder, winds about 35 mph, but mostly spits and sprinkles with only 0.01" in gauge this morning.

Below is forecast from the 06 UTC WRF-GFS valid at 8:30 pm tonight. Model forecasts storms in metro area late. The 12 UTC WRF-RR is similar but a bit later with less coverage. Perhaps an over-forecast today after yesterday's under-forecast?
