Heavy shower in our part of town a bit before 11:00 am MST yesterday morning.
ALERT rainfall data for 24-hours ending at 7:00 am this morning (above and below) show another widespread event, making two such days in a row. Amounts greater than half an inch focused over north part of Catalina and western slopes, but with other sites scattered around rest of network.
Here at house we had 0.26" - mostly from storm shown at top - Airport and Atmo both reported 0.07", while DM had a heavy storm nearly stationary over the base that produced 0.79".
The plot of detected CG flashes (above, from Atmo and Vaisala) shows almost no flashes in southeast Arizona. Thunderstorms were reported at TUS and DM, so lightning was either in-cloud or not detected by system.
Current statement from NWS for this afternoon indicates less thunderstorm activity today; however, CG plot above and check of other surface observations don't indicate much activity yesterday.
The 500 mb analysis (above) this morning indicates very weak short wave north-to-south near the Arizona/New Mexico border. While TWC sounding (below) indicates CAPE again available, although amount is much reduced today.
The 12 UTC WRF-RR forecast of rainfall through midnight (second below) indicates parts of the metro area getting storms and precipitation later today.
